“Left Alone”

"DO NOT ENTER" was written in red on the door,
of the vacant building she wished to explore.
She ascended the stairwell quickly and lost her breath,
then tripped on a shoelace and fell to her death.
The search parties heeded the sign and all returned home,
never to find the girl who’s now left all alone.
